Academic Advising Awards

Undergraduate Academic Advising Awards recognize the accomplishments and commitment of those dedicated to helping students succeed through academic advising.

Alexander Quarles Holladay Medal for Excellence

The Holladay Medal for Excellence recognizes members of the faculty whose careers have demonstrated outstanding achievement and sustained impact in research, teaching or extension and engagement.

Alumni Distinguished Graduate Professorship Award

The Alumni Association Distinguished Graduate Professorship recognizes outstanding graduate level teaching at North Carolina State University.

Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor

The Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor Award is one of the most prestigious undergraduate teaching awards at NC State.

Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching

The Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching was established in 1993 to underscore the importance of teaching and to encourage, identify, recognize, reward, and support good teaching within the university.

Dr. John S. Risley Entrepreneur of the Year Award

This award is presented annually to a faculty or staff entrepreneur that has demonstrated excellence in entrepreneurship.

Gertrude Cox Award

The Gertrude Cox Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching and Learning with Technology was created to honor the creative pedagogy of NC State’s faculty and their work in integrating new technologies into effective teaching strategies.

Global Engagement Institute

The annual Global Engagement Institute (GEI) provides professional development opportunities for faculty and staff interested in developing research, scholarship or academic programs that strengthen and enhance NC State’s collaboration with global partners. Each year, a GEI cohort of up to 10 faculty and/or staff members is selected to participate in a variety of activities focusing on a world region or topical orientation.

Innovator of the Year Award

This award is presented annually to a faculty or staff inventor that has demonstrated excellence in innovation.

Jackson Rigney Award

This award is to recognize the distinguished contributions of a faculty or staff member at NC State for the promotion of international understanding and service to the university and/or to the international community over the course of their career.

O. Max Gardner Award

This annual award is given to a member of the faculties of the University of North Carolina system who have made the greatest contribution to the welfare of the human race.

Outstanding Extension and Engagement Awards

These awards encourage and recognize members of the faculty and EHRA staff for their outstanding contributions to extension or engagement.

Outstanding Global Engagement Award

This award encourages and recognizes outstanding accomplishment in globally engaged teaching, research, extension, and/or engagement and economic development by current full-time faculty and EHRA professionals of NC State University.

Outstanding Research Award / Research Leadership Academy

The Alumni Association Outstanding Research Award and membership in the Research Leadership Academy is intended to recognize NC State’s leading scholars and faculty mentors.

Outstanding Teacher Award

The Outstanding Teacher Award recognizes excellence in teaching at all levels and is a prerequisite for the Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor Award.

Staff Awards

These four types of awards – Wilson College Textiles Merit Awards, Wilson On-the-Spot Awards, Awards for Excellence and Pride of the Wolfpack – recognize SHRA and EHRA staff members.

Student Awards

Student awards are given out at both December and May commencement ceremonies.

University Faculty Scholars

The University Faculty Scholars Program recognizes and rewards emerging academic leaders who demonstrate significant achievement, and gives faculty a permanent increase to their base salary.

Goodnight Early Career Innovator Award

The Goodnight Early Career Innovators Award, established in 2021, supports early career faculty excellence and promotes retention of tenure-track assistant professors whose scholarship is in STEM or STEM education.
