Important Dates:
09-27-23    Packages are due to department heads – contact your department head for what is required
10-25-23  Full packages are due to the Award Review Group – department heads submit nominations (up to 1) – nominees to email materials to Jeff Joines and Selina Williams
11-8-23  Award Review Group selects college nomination; all nominees are notified; comments and suggestions on package are due to the college nominee
11-20-23  Final package is due to the dean’s office – nominee to email it to the dean’s EA
11-29-23 Package is due to the university – Dean’s EA will submit

Award Information
The Outstanding Teacher Award recognizes excellence in teaching at all levels. Faculty must be recognized by the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost as an Outstanding Teacher before they can receive the Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor Award.

Criteria and Eligibility
To be considered for the Outstanding Teacher Award, the faculty nominee:

  • Must be full-time faculty (.75 FTE or greater).
  • Has taught 15 student credit hours at NC State (excluding summer sessions)
  • Has not been an Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor Award recipient in the three academic years preceding the academic year of nomination
  • Is teaching during the academic year of nomination

Renomination
Faculty members who were previously nominated for an Outstanding Teacher Award and who otherwise meet the stated criteria are eligible for re-nomination.

Recognition and Award
Recipients of the Outstanding Teacher Award become members of the Academy of Outstanding Teachers for as long as they remain NC State faculty.

Additional Recognition by the Alumni Association
The Provost’s Administrative Advisory Committee selects a subset of Outstanding Teachers for consideration by the Alumni Association. If approved, these nominees will be named Alumni Outstanding Teacher.
